Dear Parents and Guardians, Although school is still out for summer, things have been ramping up here in the building. Our summer camp is wrapping up and has been a hit! With 77 students in attendance and heaps of fun and learning, Mrs. Perantoni has already begun plans to enlarge the program for next year. We have developed an exciting academic schedule that will allow us to focus on common learning times across the grade level clusters (k-2, 3-5, 6-8). This combined with the teachers having common planning time daily, places us in a position where we can target instruction more accurately, and where we can act more proactively when learners struggle. We have hired on three teachers so far, with two more to go. Joining us next year as our Middle School Language Arts teacher is Brianna Bailey. Our new Lead Math Teacher is Kim Farone. Returning to our school, in a new capacity is Christine Hertz. Many of you remember Ms. Hertz from her long term substitute teaching position last year. We have just finished interviewing for the Kindergarten co-teaching position, and have offered a letter of intent to Kristina Safford, formerly from Washington Village School. We hope to have Kristina officially hired soon. This only leaves our Spanish position open, which we hope to hire within the week. Due to our commitment to designing a student centered academic schedule, combined with our need to hire on new teachers, classroom assignments have been delayed. I am now pleased to share our carefully prepared classroom assignments. In this, we have taken care in balancing the needs of the students with the written requests that were provided to the office. Those assignments are below. You should expect to be contacted by your child’s teacher prior to our September 1st start of school. Summer can be a season full of good times and fun memories, but did you know that kids often experience learning loss when they don’t read during the summer. This loss is typically referred to as the “summer slide.” As we move into an exciting year of high expectations in a supportive environment, we ask that you assist us in preventing the summer slide. Studies show that kids who read four or more age-appropriate books over the summer do better on reading tests in the fall than those who read only one or no books over the summer. And, asking questions about what your child is reading helps with comprehension. Motivating your kids to read doesn’t have to be costly, and can even be free if you visit the local library. Here are a few ways to help your kids keep their reading skills sharp:· Let your kids choose the books they want to read· Give your kids access to a wide variety of age appropriate books· Read with your child - to them, in front of them, and listen to them read If you have any questions, or would like to visit the school, or volunteer to help out, you can contact me by phone at 439-5534, or by email at
