Personal History:
I was born in Newport, Vermont over a half-century ago, and grew up in Wilder, Vermont.
My parents were both teachers: my father taught 7th grade science, and my mother taught English and social studies to 5th and 6th graders. My sister became an art teacher, and is still teaching in Randolph, and my uncle is a retired teacher. I guess it's just in my genes!
I graduated from Hartford High School, class of 1973, and later met an married my husband, Richard.
I became a mom for the first time in 1990 when Emily was born, and again in 1993, with the birth of Sarah
Professional History:
I knew that I wanted to becorme a teacher after spending time in my daughter's preschool classroom,
so began the long haul to becoming a teacher in 1993. I graduated from Plymouth State College
in 2000 with my degree in Childhood Studies and a Special Education option. I taught in Sharon,VT for one year, then came to Waits River in 2001. I am currently working on my master's degree through UVM and the Vermont Math Initiative.
Hobbies and Interests:
I love horses, and have been riding for about two years. Being an older learner means that it seems to take my body a long time to learn the dressage movements, but I never have a bad day if a horse is involved. I've had a few "unscheduled" dismounts, but with a good chiropractor, I was able to keep on riding! My other big interest happens here at school in the form of the challenge course that we have on site. I have had lots of training through Project Adventure, and use those skills to help students build community and teamwork by engaging students in various activities on the ground, on the low ropes course, and finally on the high ropes course.
